This paper is a position paper to examine the roles of Medical Social Workers in University Health Centres in Nigeria. This paper also examined the challenges, needs, and benefits of establishing the Medical Social Services Department in the Nigerian University Health Centre. The paper concluded that the role of Medical Social Workers is the sine qua non to effective and efficient health care service delivery in Nigerian Universities. The paper recommended a structured implementation guide for the Medical Social Services Department in Nigerian University Health Centres.
